Further Adventures in the Eastern Cape

In the past 2 weeks I have discovered:
*The Ann Bryant Art Museum situated in lovely grounds and housed in a charming old building staffed with delightful volunteers. We'll go to the opening of an exhibition there tonight. Although...the weather is SO gorgeous and it's tempting to spend every sunset walking on one of the many lovely beaches hereabouts.
*People tend to be excessively Christian, there is a sign on our road stating: ‘Satan, you're our weakest link. Goodbye!’ Christian centres and churches are on every corner. And everyone from realtors to aerobics instructors feel free to spread the good news. Classes at the gym often end with an admonition to ‘Stay close to God.’
*Beaches to die for, including but not limited to Cove Rock, Kidds Beach and Christmas Rock. Check out the photographic evidence here.
*I eventually tracked down an internet café where I got to help an old Xhosa man set up an e-mail account and witnessed a near murder as a French African chick egged on some dude with a monkey wrench AND a flip knife. Not wise in my humble opinion.
***By far and away the most exciting news of the week is that J and I met with Renette, a cool social worker, who is going to help us find our baby. One of our primary reasons for wanting to stay put in South Africa for a while (other than that we LOVE it, of course) is to adopt. Yes, we’re VERY excited. We have stacks of books to study and have already gathered up quite a collection of (cute) necessities, including blankies, onesies, teeny tiny socks, and other things that make the heart melt.
Watch this space…

Off to see some of the SPW projects in action tomorrow which is also Freedom Day. That means a lengthy trip into the rural Eastern Cape and much merriment I'm sure.
Then The Edge in Hogsback for a couple of nights.
