Backwater Reverie

The food just keeps getting better and better.
All that time I put into Pilates...for nought!
Last night we gobbled up delectable Fish Masala, rice with cashews and cloves, dal that melted in the mouth, scrumptious flaky breads called pattoras. It was all too too divine.
Breakfast wasn't too shabby either -- iddiapom (rice vermicelli noodles with fresh grated coconut) and coconut milk veg curry. Lip smackingly YUM.
Accompanied my dad by little wooden canoe rowed by a very smiley lady in glowing sari to the nearest road where we caught an auto-rickshaw to the hospital.
He's on his second day of physio there and has stopped weeping in agony, hopefully for good.
While dad was being doctored, J and I went exploring. Found a candy gopuram (South Indian Hindu temples sport grand edifices thick with sculpted gods & co, often vibrantly painted) and mesmerising puja (priests make offerings of flowers and fruit to various deities on behalf of the devout). Ladies were chanting accompanied by drumming and a painted ellie looked on.
Too cool.
I have a massage later and tomorrow night we board a train which will take us across the sub-continent of India to Chennai/Madras.
Alleppey is about 40% Christian and this little backwater town is rocking to a 10 day Christmas festival. All the streets are decked out in silver tinsel and lined with cheap toys and pungent snacks. We even get a fireworks show every night...above the timeless waterways where women wash themselves, their children, clothes and dishes; while men punt up and down whooping about their catch.
Merry merry everyone!
