There is magic in this world
One of many remarkable sights to be seen during our three week stint in Europe was the Villa Borghese in Rome where I spontaneously burst into tears on seeing the Caravaggio room (those paintings, they're alive) and had what I can only describe as a visceral reaction to Bernini's sculptures.
However, it was at the end of our two hours that we came upon this small painting by Raphael ~
Do you see it?
It's a baby unicorn.
Our wonderfully eloquent and passionate guide immediately launched into dissecting the unicorn as a symbol ...of wealth and the rarified life of this unidentified young woman.
Meanwhile, here sits, plain as day, a mystical creature, bleating in its mistress's arms.
If we dare not explain it away...
there is magic in this world.
